Reports suggest DJ Fresh revealed the reason for Sol Phenduka's suspension from Kaya 959.

According to a statement from the station on 20 August 2025, Phenduka was suspended with immediate effect, with the station citing an ongoing "internal process" as the reason for the suspension.

However, MDN News claims in a Twitter (X) post on 21 August that DJ Fresh revealed that it was connected to the Minnie Dlamini defamation case against Phenduka and his Podcast and Chill co-host MacGyver "MacG" Mukwevho.

The lawsuit stems from the duo's statements about Dlamini's past relationships, as well as comments about her hygiene after her breakup with Dr Brian Monaisa.

Briefly News revealed that Dlamini is seeking R1 million in damages for the impairment of her dignity. She is also demanding that the podcasters pay R1.5 million to a women’s organisation focused on gender-based violence.

While Phenduka has yet to address the suspension, Kaya assured its stakeholders that the matter is being handled with "fairness and sensitivity."

News of his suspension has circulated on social media, with online users debating the real cause of his dismissal.

Why was Sol Phenduka suspended?

The controversial media personality revealed during an episode of Podcast & Chill that he was suspended for seven days due to Minnie Dlamini's R2.5 million lawsuit against the podcasters. Phenduka shared that the station had initially told him not to announce anything on social media, but was shocked when the statement about his suspension was shared online.

Meanwhile, South Africans on social media have rallied behind Sol Phenduka, stating that he did not say anything bad on the show; instead, he defended Minnie when his co-host MacG was saying negative comments about the actress. Others said he deserved what was coming at him because he was supposed to stop MacG when he raised the point about Minnie's body odour. Some fans have also blamed MacG for costing Sol Phenduka his Kaya FM gig due to his unfiltered comments.

Minnie Dlamini has not yet commented on the issue. The Honeymoon actress, who is currently living it up in the United States of America, raised eyebrows with a cryptic post shared on her page when the news about Sol's suspension went viral on social media.
